Could you turn a technology strategy into a delivery plan that leaders trust and actually use? This Director of Portfolio Management (PMO) role reports to the CTO of a major UK infrastructure services group, with a basic salary of up to £155,000 plus bonus and other benefits.

You’ll own the single enterprise-wide view of technology change across Group IT: what gets funded, what gets delivered, and whether the benefits land.

Alongside running the PMO, you’ll personally sponsor or direct the most critical cross-functional projects, stepping in hands-on where delivery needs recovery or renewed alignment.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Translating Group IT strategy into an integrated delivery and execution plan with clear owners, milestones and decision points
  • Leading portfolio prioritisation, investment and capacity planning, with business case governance, change control and benefits realisation
  • Maintaining oversight of portfolio spend, forecasts and variances, and owning the PMO budget
  • Managing cross-programme dependencies and risks, and providing decision-quality reporting to the CTO and executive forums
  • Sponsoring or directing priority strategic projects through mobilisation, delivery and handover into business as usual
  • Building and leading the PMO team, its operating model and portfolio management capability across Group IT and delivery partners
What You’ll Bring
  • Senior leadership experience in portfolio, programme, governance or strategic delivery within a complex organisation
  • A track record of establishing or transforming portfolio governance and PMO capability, kept proportionate rather than bureaucratic
  • Strong grounding in investment prioritisation, capacity planning, assurance and benefits management
  • Experience leading complex cross-functional programmes, including recovering high-risk initiatives
  • A professional qualification such as APM, MSP, PRINCE2 or MoP, plus working knowledge of Agile and traditional delivery
Desirable: experience in infrastructure, utilities, engineering or construction, technology operating model transformation, financial planning and supplier management in a technology environment, portfolio maturity models and communities of practice
