What the assessment looked at

The assessment looked at how Deerfoot treats candidates, clients, staff and the wider community. Practices that contributed include:

  • A charity donation for every CV. Deerfoot gives £1 to the Born Free Foundation each time it sends a candidate's CV to a client, and has donated over £70,000 to good causes to date.
  • Fee-free recruitment for charities. Each month Deerfoot makes one permanent IT placement for a registered charity or non-profit without charging a fee.
  • Risk-sharing terms for employers. Its standard permanent terms include a 6-month 100% refund and no invoice on the start date, with fees paid in two halves at four weeks and three months.
  • A stable, experienced team. Staff stay with Deerfoot for an average of 14.4 years, and its consultants average 19 years' recruitment experience.
  • Accredited processes. Deerfoot is a corporate member of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) and is ISO 9001 certified by BSI.

Nick Gordon, founder and director of Deerfoot, said: "We started Deerfoot in 1997 believing that recruitment works best when it is fair to everyone involved. B Corp certification holds us to that independently. It checks how we treat the candidates who trust us with their careers, the employers who trust us with their hires, and our own team. Going through the assessment made us put numbers on things we had always done, and it has given us a clear list of what to improve before we recertify."

Deerfoot is a remote-first team based in Hampshire and recruits permanent, contract and interim technology professionals for employers across the UK, from software engineering and cloud to cyber security, data and IT leadership.
